Inspired by a post on the Locksands Life blog. Can’t believe I haven’t done this before now.
The first record I actually bought for myself, with my own “spending money” was Love Is All Around by The Troggs
Obviously it was covered by Wet Wet Wet in 1994 and was number one for five weeks. I can’t believe the Troggs’ version only reached number five back in 1967. Although it did sell over a million copies and was awarded a Gold Disc. Artistes don’t need to sell that many these days to qualify.
It was written by the group’s lead singer Reg Presley.
Their first hit was in 1966 with Wild Thing. Oh my….I remember those striped suits!

Troggs
They did seem quite different back then in an age of psychedelia and hippies.
I heard that Reg is battling lung cancer now, at the age of 71. Although he has only just quit performing with the group because of his health issues. Here’s wishing him well.
EDIT: Sadly Reg Presley Passed away February 4th 2013. R.I.P.
Below is a video of my first record: Love Is all Around.

It is sad thing indeed,,nice memory, I loved them. I even played a couple of his tunes..;)
Hi Carol… just catching up!
I couldn’t remember Love is All Around until I played it – and then I could! I prefer this version to Wet Wet Wet’s, being honest! My first record was (whispers) Xanadu by Olivia Newton John. Some firsts are good, some are funny…
Great, Carol – and not a bad record either. I have to say I’d be more of a ‘Wild Thing’ person but The Troggs were great. I didn’t know Reg was ill. I wish him all the best too.
Those 60s days were wonderful!
