The Daily Mail journalists think everything is “Hilarious”. It seems to be their favourite word. Tan fans share photos revealing their hilarious burn marks”. Who in their right mind would think burning their skin is hilarious? Will they still be laughing if they find out they have skin cancer? “Tan Fans”? They all look like overcooked bodies to me. Difficult to believe that some morons think it’s good to smother their bodies in cooking oil because they think they will get a quicker tan. Basically all the are doing is frying themselves. A few days of hot weather turns some people into complete idiots.

Still Here

1 May

Oh my, it’s been a while!

Sometimes you just get tied up with other things though.

Anyway I’m still around and pleased to say still not smoking. It’s been twelve weeks now. Using the electronic ciggy, but not as much as I was originally.

Also I’m starting work again after a two-year break to various health problems. Things have improved in that area. It may not be permanent, but it will do for now. I’ll be working in a print finishers. My daughter has also now got a permanent job with more money, so things are looking up for us at the moment!

Antibiotics Resistance

12 Mar

Antibiotics resistance as big a risk as terrorism

This in the news yesterday.

It’s not news though is it? I thought most sensible people knew the risks years ago. It seems maybe there are not enough sensible people about, and that includes G.Ps. Doctors are to be ordered to restrict the prescribing of antibiotics, it is said.

Why do G.Ps have to be told to do this? Common sense would dictate you don’t dole out these medicines willy-nilly.

They are saying apparently that patients are “demanding” these drugs when not necessary, and are given them to avoid confrontation with their doctor. That beggars belief. Plus how many get these drugs, feel better and then don’t complete the course in any case? Do people never learn!

G.Ps giving in to demands like this, knowing the effect on the greater population in years to come seems tantamount to gross negligence as far as I’m concerned.

It makes me so angry.

(Non) Smoking Update

28 Feb

cigarette (Photo credit: Fried Dough)

Forgot to post last week about progress with the electronic cigarette.

At the present moment in time, it has been exactly 3 weeks since we last smoked a real cigarette.

The good thing is, we are not using the E-cig that much either. Some people  use them to smoke as they would a normal cigarette, taking several drags on the ciggy. We have been just having a couple of drags on it and putting it down.

It’s great just having it there so that we can have a quick one if needed, but we seem to be going for several hours sometimes without a “smoke”. So we’re losing the ” habit” part of smoking too.

So all in all, looking good. I really don’t ever want to pick up a “proper” cigarette again!

Ciggy Free.

15 Feb

It’s early days yet, but my daughter and myself haven’t had a cigarette for over a week.

We invested in an electronic cigarette, but so far we haven’t really used it a great deal. We thought we were going to get cravings and have to use it on a fairly regular basis. Like lighting up with the tobacco. (We rolled our own). I really do hope we can keep it up, but at the moment it is looking promising. I suppose that proves that a large part of it was habit rather than addiction.

Apart from the health incentives, it is going to save us quite a bit of cash, although we did roll our own, due to the savings on ready-made cigarettes.

Will update each Friday with news of whether we are still managing to keep it up.

Below is a picture of one similar to the one we are using.

Down In The Mouth, But Coming Up Again

9 Jan

I Can’t believe it’s four days since I made a post!

Been ill again, and have just been on to check for new posts and messages.

I had to drag myself to the dentist during this time. I’d been on a course of antibiotics and went back for a check up. Or so I thought. The swelling having subsided, it became apparent that one of my back teeth had split right down the middle. So having an anaesthetic  was a bit of a shock to the system. That  second injection in the roof of the mouth is a killer…ouch!

I’ve been suffering with acute bronchitis over the past couple of weeks. Awful. To add to that my neck and back pain has been worse. This on top of the surgery earlier in the month. But hey ho, things could be worse. I have some stronger pain killers now, so that is helping a little. I think if you shook me I’d rattle these days.

It makes you feel down when you are ill at the best of times, but when you are trying to recover from depression it makes it seem worse, so I’ve been feeling a little sorry for myself of late. My blogging brain wasn’t functioning properly which was getting me down. Especially as I started this blog as a focus and it had been helping immensely. I spent most of the holidays in bed and missed two family get-togethers, but there is always another time to enjoy their company. A red-letter day on the calendar isn’t needed to have fun with loved ones.

Everything seems to be getting back to normal after the Christmas break. I like that. The hype of Christmas was wearisome for me… I know, I’m a miserable old fart! People back to work and school, shops open, regular routine. I suppose that seems boring to many but I like normality and routine of late, it’s a good coping strategy – for me at least.

Family focus for the year ahead is my son Scott’s wedding to his lovely fiancée in September.  Caroline is so organised it’s amazing. No “Bridezilla” here! It will be the second wedding in two years as an older brother married in 2011.

I was thinking of making a few small changes to the blog – though not entirely sure what, as yet. Will post about any changes if I make them.

Hopefully back to normal from today and more regular posts now my brain is in gear! Apologies for the self-pitying style of post, but it’s good to talk, as they say….
